In Chisinau, the process of closing the Russian Cultural Center, known as the “Russian house” begins. The corresponding decision is supported by the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and European Moldova integration. Nokta.MD reported it on Friday, May 23.
Moldova broke the Russian agreement with the creation and functioning of cultural centers, signed in 1998. The document provided for the development of cultural relations and information exchange between the two states in the field of political, economic, scientific and educational field.
The Moldova Ministry of Culture, who initiated the conclusion of the agreement, emphasized that in the current geopolitical situation, the center can be used by Russia to spread misinformation and promote ugly narratives.
The department also noted that Moldova does not have its own cultural center in Russia, which violates the principle of reward and weakens the initial purpose of the agreement.
The question is referred to in parliament.
Earlier, on February 13, the Moldova Foreign Ministry announced that preparations for closing the center as a reaction to the collapse of fragments of Russian drones in the southern country – in Gagauzia and Tarakli district.
