US President Donald Trump lifted American sanctions from Syria.
The leader of America announced his intention to cancel the Syrian sanctions, which were introduced during the previous administration of the White House after the Bashar Assad regime fell. Trump announced this on May 13 during a speech at an investment forum in Saudi Arabia, CNN reports.
The US President said that he made such a decision after discussing the Second Prince of Saudi Arabia Muhammad Bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Typ Erdogan.
For many years, Syria has subjected a lot of horrors, wars and murders. That is why my administration has already taken the first steps to restore normal relations between the United States and Syria for the first time in more than ten years, ”Trump said.
According to him, these sanctions were “cruel and destructive”, but “performed an important function.”
Trump hopes that the new Syrian government, headed by Ahmad al-Sharaa, will be able to “stabilize the situation in the country and preserve the world.” And US Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria in Turkey at the end of this week.
We will recall that the special representative of the US President in Ukraine Keith Kellgus said that the US Congress has already prepared a bill on new sanctions against the Russian Federation, which supported more than 70 senators. The list may be the Central Bank of the Russian Federation or the Russian shadow fleet, which the aggressor country sends about 70% of its oil through the Baltic Sea.
