The EU ambassadors gave the green light to the seventh package of EU sanctions against Russia. Gold, including gold jewelry, is included,” Jozwiak wrote.
He also added that the decision would be made public tomorrow in the Official Journal of the EU.
The import of Russian gold will be banned, and the assets of Sberbank will be frozen. There will also be 50 more individuals and legal entities on the sanctions list. Among them are politicians, military leaders, oligarchs and propagandists. In addition, the sanctions package will include a commitment that the restrictions will not threaten food and energy security around the world.
Further, the package of sanctions must be approved by the Council of Europe. This procedure will end tomorrow, July 21, at 10:00. The sanctions will come into force after publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
On July 15, the European Commission supported the proposal to introduce the seventh package of sanctions against Russia.
It provides for a ban on the import of Russian gold, the export of advanced technologies, new personal sanctions and closing loopholes in previous sanctions packages.
In the meantime, the EU will ease sanctions against selected Russian banks, according to Reuters.
This is necessary to facilitate trade in food and fertilizers.
According to Reuters, citing European officials, under the revised sanctions, the EU also plans to facilitate food exports from Russian ports, which traders stopped serving after the EU sanctions.
