The threat of investigations, prosecutions, and trials will remain with Russian war criminals for the rest of their lives.
The Russian Federation must clearly understand that the threat of prosecution of war criminals responsible for atrocities in Ukraine will be endless. This was announced on Monday, July 18, by European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, Reuters wrote.
He said the United States and more than 40 other countries are working to find evidence that will help bring Russia’s war criminals to justice.
“It’s going to last in the next few weeks, in the next few months, in the next few years, maybe in the next decades. In some cases, it’s going to be very fast. In others it’s going to be longer. But it’s a clear one “signal to the Russian authorities: the threat of these investigations, the prosecutions and the ships will hang on them until the end of their lives. It will be forever,” he said.
Reynders stressed that Russia’s war against Ukraine was the first time the international community had begun working to find those responsible for war crimes before the war ended.
Recall that the European Union since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24 has frozen the assets of the Russian Federation in the amount of 13.8 billion euros.
