US President Donald Trump promised to introduce 25% of steel and aluminum import responsibilities.
Any steel coming to the United States from other countries will have a 25 percent duty. It is also planned to declare relevant duties in relation to countries that import tax imports of US goods. These measures will enter into force almost immediately. The American leader announced this on February 9 aboard the presidential aircraft. This was reported by Bloomberg.
Government and industrial statistics show that Canada, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Vietnam are the largest suppliers in the United States. And primary aluminum in the largest volume comes from Canada. It was in this country in January and November last year 79% of total imports. And Mexico is also the largest supplier of aluminum scrap and aluminum alloys.
It was noted that during the first presidential term, Trump stated 25% on steel and 10% for aluminum, but then provided quotas for trade without duty with some key trading partners of the United States.
Recall that in early February, US President Donald Trump made duties on products from Mexico, Canada and China. The responsibilities for the PRC will be 10%, and for Canada and Mexico – 25%. For energy from Canada, tariffs will be 10%.
