Paris closed her account on the social network X

The French capital is leaving Platform X due to growing misinformation and hate speech on American billionaire Elon Musk’s social network. This was stated in the farewell message of the Paris PR account.

As noted in the message, using the platform first became “difficult” and then “impossible.”

“The City of Paris is closing its account on Monday, January 20th. It is a difficult choice, but it is necessary if we want to unite society through peaceful means of expression. More than ever, Paris is focused on facts and factual information,” the statement said.

At the same time, it was reported that Paris moved to the Bluesky social network.

The capital’s PR account noted that X was reducing the reach of factual and objective reporting, as well as amplifying hate speech and misinformation, which, along with a lack of moderation, had become a problem.

At the end of 2023, X left the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, who called the platform a “garbage dump” and “a weapon of mass destruction of our democracies.”

“This platform and its owner are deliberately acting to exacerbate tensions and conflicts… Let’s not fool ourselves. This is a very clear political project that wants to abandon democracy and its values for the sake of powerful private interests,” Hidalgo wrote in his latest message.

It was previously reported that the popular Belgian publication De Morgen is leaving X because it does not want to end up on a “toxic platform” where disinformation, conspiracy theories and racism are spread without any moderation.
