The North Korean casualty rate as of early December 2024 is about 92 people per day.

The North Korean contingent of about 12 thousand people fighting the Ukrainian defense forces in the Kursk region may be killed or maimed in the next three months. Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) came to this conclusion in their report, taking into account the current rate of losses of North Korean soldiers.

According to the South Korean National Intelligence Service, as of mid-January, 300 North Koreans had been killed in action and 2,700 had been wounded in action. North Korea’s casualty rate has been around 92 per day since major hostilities began in early December 2024.

“The entire North Korean contingent (12 thousand people – ed.) in the Kursk region could be killed or wounded in about 12 weeks (until mid-April 2025) if North Korean forces continue to suffer an equally high death toll in the future. ,” the report said.

ISW added that North Korean troops will continue to maintain a higher ratio of wounded to killed as this is typical for armed conflict – at the same time, it is unclear if and when the wounded North Koreans soldiers will return to battle.

Let’s recall that the US Department of Defense stated that they do not see significant effectiveness in the participation of the North Korean military in the battles against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region.
