The fire that broke out at an oil depot in the Russian Engels after a drone attack has continued for the fifth day.
The governor of the Saratov region of Russia, Roman Busargin, today, January 12, said that “at the industrial enterprise” in Engels the process of “controlled fuel burnout” continues.
The amount of smoke, as well as the area of the fire, is decreasing,” Busargin assured in a message on his Telegram channel.
Busargin, despite complaints from local residents on social networks, also assured that “the latest air samples did not reveal excess concentrations of harmful substances.”
Of course, where can there be an excess concentration of harmful substances in the air after four days of continuous burning of kerosene? It is proposed to recognize the air as healing,” one of the commentators reacted under his post on Telegram.
Two days ago – January 10 – Busargin wrote that, according to experts, the process of fuel burnout will approximately take another two days.
On the night of January 8, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the alleged downing of more than ten drones, the debris of one of which fell on an “industrial facility”, which started a fire.
According to Russian media, an oil depot at the Kristall plant of Rosrezerv, an institution entrusted with the responsibility for storing fuel for the Engels-2 airbase, caught fire.
Later, information about the attack on the oil depot was confirmed by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On January 8, while extinguishing the fire, two employees of the fire service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations died, and another was hospitalized.
