The South Korean intelligence agency has confirmed Ukraine’s recent capture of two North Korean soldiers.
The department also quoted one of them as saying that there were significant losses among North Korean military personnel in Russia. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
(We) will continue to exchange information on North Korean prisoners in close cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence agencies, South Korean intelligence said, adding that the wounded soldiers were not in critical condition.
South Korean officials estimate that North Korea has sent about 11,000 troops to support Russia in its war against Ukraine.
Last month, South Korean intelligence reported that at least 100 North Koreans were killed and about 1,000 were wounded.
Yesterday, January 11, the SBU reported the capture of two DPRK military personnel in the Kursk region. It was noted that one of which was captured on January 9, 2025 by soldiers of tactical group No. 84 of the Special Operations Forces, and the other by paratroopers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The SBU said that one of the prisoners, as well as the Russian military at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, said during interrogation that he believed that he was going to study, and not to war against Ukraine.
The prisoners were interrogated through Korean interpreters in cooperation with the South Korean National Intelligence Service, as they do not speak Ukrainian, Russian or English.
