The parties in Brussels held “a meaningful and open discussion on the energy situation and the wider consequences of stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.”
The European Commission and Slovakia have agreed to create a working group to discuss gas supplies to Slovakia after completing an agreement with Russia on gas transit through Ukraine. The decision is the result of negotiations in Brussels between Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and European Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen.
“We will continue to discuss these issues at the political and technical level between Slovakia and the European Commission. In this context, we have agreed to establish a high-level working group to further explore and define options based on a standard assessment of the situation. and to explore how the EU can help.” , – emphasized in the statement.
The parties held talks on January 9 in Brussels.
According to the statement, the two had a “substantive and open discussion on the energy situation and the broader consequences of stopping Russian gas transit through Ukraine.”
Let us recall that the Prime Minister of Slovakia accused Kyiv of causing damage to Bratislava due to the cessation of Russian gas transit.
However, the cessation of Russian gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system does not affect either the energy security of European countries or consumer prices in the market, the European Commission said.
