Bolivian President Luis Arce has asked the Ministry of Justice to investigate complaints about allegedly receiving economic funds from an Argentine accused of drug trafficking of the ruling Movimiento Al Socialismo (Movement towards Socialism) party.A PLUS), the minister said on Tuesday.

“The president [Luis] Arce referred the matter to the Ministry of Justice. Vice Minister of Transparency opened [abierto] case and launched an investigation into this aspect,” said Minister of Justice Ivan Lima.

“Which Ministry of Justicewe have been mandated by the President and the Vice President to investigate, explain and respond to the Bolivian people on this issue, which should by no means be left uninvestigated and unanswered to our people.

Lima said this in an interview with the private television channel Unitel, which asked him about complaints filed last week by pro-government MP Rolando Cuellar against his party’s vice president, Gerardo Garcia.

According to Cuellar, Garcia thanked “Miguel Angel Salazar Javi” in a January 2017 letter for “his great economic contributions” since 2014.

According to the MP, “Miguel Angel Salazar Yavi” was actually the Argentine José Miguel Farfan, who was arrested in Bolivia in 2019 and transferred to his country, where he was wanted for drug trafficking.

On Tuesday, Garcia filed a criminal lawsuit against Cuellar for defamation and defamation.

The entire opposition, having learned about Cuellar’s complaint, turned to the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) with a request to open an investigation into this case.

Opponents believe that if misuse of economic funds is proven, TGE should cancel the legal status of the IAS, which will prevent it from participating in national, departmental or municipal elections.

Relations between the MAS, led by former President Evo Morales (2009-2019), and the government are strained due to political divisions and power space struggles.
