“Canada and the United States are really one thing. And there will be no artificial separation, and it will be clear what the face of all this is, and significantly improve national security. Also, do not forget: in essence, we protect Canada ,” he said.
He also said the United States subsidizes Canada’s economy and doesn’t need its “engines and lumber.”
“In his comments, President-elect Trump demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of what makes Canada a strong country. Our economy is strong. Our people are strong. We are not steadfast in the face of threats,” the head of the Canadian Foreign Ministry responded.
Trump has previously threatened to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canadian goods and accused Ottawa of not responding to trade and immigration issues.
