The SM Entertainment festival, SMTOWN LIVE 2025, which will be a celebration of the company’s 30th anniversary and will bring together great artists from the agency, has been the topic of discussion among internet users in recent weeks due to controversies in the relationship between the company and its artists, such as , for example, Taeyeon, from Girls’ Generation, who will not be present.
Recently, the member of Red Velvet, Yericame to social media to reveal to fans that she will only be present at the group’s main performance, considering that the show will last more than five hours, many fans expected to see her in a collaboration or a solo stage.
A lot of people wanted me to give spoilers for the show, but I think I’ll just perform on Red Velvet’s main stage! I’m giving advance notice in case people are anxious about other steps. I don’t have the time or luxury to prepare something with my current schedule. It’s unfortunate, but I decided to prepare well for the main stage.”
Despite showing support for the artist, internet users were still frustrated as they discovered earlier this week about the absence of the other member of the girl group, Wendywho, due to “personal problems”, will not participate in the event.
Moments after the announcement was released, the singer spoke to her fans through the Bubble platform (via Koreaboo), apologizing for the inconvenience, in addition to reassuring the Reveluvs (Red Velvet fandom) stating that she is not sick, and that she would really like to participate in the presentation, but unfortunately, it will not be possible.
It is worth remembering that another SM Entertainment artist also canceled her participation in SMTOWN 2025: Taeyeonleader of Girls’ Generation. Before confirming her absence through the company, in early December, the artist herself revealed to fans in a live broadcast that she should not participate in the show, as “there is no good conversation between the company and me”.
This week, the singer spoke about her absence, saying that she was planning to perform two or three songs, however, the agency did not provide support for the stage preparation, thus deciding to cancel her participation.
SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in Seoul is scheduled to take place on January 11th and 12th. Soon after, the show will also be held in Mexico City, on May 9th, Los Angeles, on May 11th, and Tokyo, from August 9th to 10th and will feature artists from the company such as: Kangta (HOT), BoA, TVXQ!, Super Junior, Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation), Minho and Key (SHINee), Red Velvet, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, aespa, RIIZE, NCT WISH, naevis and Raiden.
