During 2024, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremen, imposed 97 fines for violating the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language.”
This is reported on the website of the Language Ombudsman.
In particular:
- a fine of 1.7 thousand UAH – one fine;
- in the amount of 3.4 thousand UAH – 89 fines;
- in the amount of UAH 5.1 thousand – one fine;
- in the amount of UAH 6.8 thousand – two fines;
- in the amount of UAH 8.5 thousand – three fines;
- in the amount of 11.9 thousand UAH – one fine.
On July 16, 2022, Articles 188-52 and 188-53 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses came into force, according to which:
- for violating the requirements of the Law regarding the state language on the Internet, violators may be held administratively liable with a fine in the amount of 200 to 300 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (from 3,400 to 5,100 UAH) or a warning if the violation is committed for the first time;
- for a repeated violation within a year – a fine in the amount of 500 to 700 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (8500-11900 UAH).
