Foreign-made aircraft continue to be supplied to Russia, despite US and EU sanctions. Since the beginning of 2024, at least 28 aircraft have been imported into the country, including small aircraft and large passenger airliners. The US and EU imposed sanctions against Russia’s aviation industry in the first days after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In particular, the country is prohibited from supplying foreign-made aircraft and spare parts for them, as well as repairing and servicing Russian-owned aircraft abroad.
It was previously reported that from May 2022 to June 2023, Russian airlines bought spare parts worth at least $1.2 billion to avoid sanctions.
