Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico may soon go to Moscow for negotiations with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin on gas supplies after 2024.
The Serbian president said he “unofficially learned” about the Slovak prime minister’s visit to Putin next week.
The Slovak side did not comment on Vucic’s statements at the time of publication of the news.
Let us remember that yesterday Fico accused Zelensky of attempting to bribe.
Fico said that Slovakia will lose 500 million euros annually due to the cessation of gas transit. According to him, in response, Zelensky offered 500 million of Russia’s frozen assets if Bratislava supports Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
But Fico replied: “Never!”
Fico told reporters that Zelensky’s proposals, allegedly made behind closed doors, were “absurd.” And he suggested that Ukraine allowed itself to damage the economy of an EU member.
On December 20, Fico said that his country may consider measures against Ukraine if the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukrainian territory is not extended.
Slovakia, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas imports, proposed alternative arrangements, including changing the ownership of the gas before it entered Ukrainian territory, but these proposals were rejected.
At a press conference in Brussels on December 19, Zelensky once again stated that Ukraine will not continue the transit of Russian gas:
We will not provide the opportunity for additional billions in our blood.
According to Fico’s statements that Slovakia would lose money without Russian gas, the president said that “we are losing more.”
It’s a shame to talk about money during a war because we are losing people. But if we are completely pragmatic, Ukraine is losing much more in energy because of this war.
