Ukraine will replace some ambassadors to other countries. The country’s representative at the UN will also be replaced.
President Vladimir Zelensky has agreed to the appointment of more than 30 Ukrainian ambassadors abroad. The head of state announced this in an evening speech on Friday, December 20.
According to the president, together with the diplomatic team of Ukraine, he approved the list of new Ukrainian ambassadors.
“I agree with more than 30 decisions, including: Nariman Jelal – in Turkey, Alena Getmanchuk – the representative of Ukraine in NATO, Andriy Melnik – the representative of Ukraine in the UN These and other orders will be issued as soon as possible, according to diplomatic procedures,” said Zelensky.
Nariman Jelal is the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, which was released from Russian captivity at the end of June 2024. The former Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, was transferred to the post of ambassador to Poland in the fall.
Alena Getmanchuk is director of the New Europe Center, associate senior analyst at the Atlantic Council of the United States. Ukraine’s current representative to NATO is Natalya Galibarenko, who was appointed to this post in July 2021.
Andriy Melnyk is the former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, now Ambassador of Ukraine to Brazil. Ukraine’s current permanent representative to the UN, Sergei Kislitsa, was appointed in December 2019.
Let’s recall that the previous Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will be reformed. This process includes personnel decisions as well as youth participation.
Sibiga also said that one of the countries expressed their willingness to become a patron state under the Geneva Conventions to help Ukrainians in Russia.
