Seoul for the first time since confirming the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine imposed sanctions against Pyongyang and Moscow.
South Korea on Tuesday, December 17, announced sanctions against Russia and North Korea. They will be indicted against 11 individuals and 15 companies supporting the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine, Yonhap reports.
Specifically, the list includes a missile developer, the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army, the director of the operations bureau, as well as an army general who allegedly commands the “Storm Corps” deployed in the western front line of Russia, and the Russians who provided financial support for cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, brought weapons and helped provide military equipment.
The sanctioned companies provided funds and materials for the development of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
The 15 sanctioned entities are mostly Russian, except for the Storm Corps and a South Ossetia-based bank.
South Korea’s new sanctions take effect on Thursday, December 19.
Earlier, the Ukrainian military showed a video from the Kursk region, where the corpses of Russian and North Korean soldiers were shown. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, North Korean forces killed and wounded at least 30 soldiers.
