The Cabinet of Ministers considers restoration of housing infrastructure, training of specialists and provision of Ukrzaliznytsia with railways as priorities.
Japan has announced the creation of a coordination council for the restoration of Ukraine, where it plans to attract Ukrainian and Japanese businesses. The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine reported this on Tuesday, December 17.
It was noted that the Ukrainian delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko held a meeting with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan Hiromasa Nakano.
According to Sviridenko, Nakano said that Japan is ready to hold the first meeting of the coordination council, to which it has already invited representatives of the Ukrainian government.
“We sincerely thank Japan for its willingness to participate in the restoration of the destroyed Ukrainian infrastructure. Japan has experience in the elimination of natural disasters, technology and production necessary for the restoration of damaged facilities, ” said Sviridenko.
The Ukrainian side also expressed priorities in cooperation with the Japanese government in terms of infrastructure renewal. This includes:
-
restoration of housing infrastructure using advanced Japanese technologies and innovations;
-
exchange of experience for training specialists in the transport sector and other projects
-
continued provision of Ukrzaliznytsia with rails to restore the rail surface.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Ukraine needs 25 thousand tons of R-65 steel rail.
“Japan has already transferred the same amount through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), thanks to which it is possible to restore 200 kilometers of railway tracks in 2023-2024,” the Ministry of Economy said in a statement.
The parties discussed how Japan and Ukraine can help attract Japanese companies to the restoration of Ukraine and what tools the private sector needs from the governments of both countries.
Earlier it was reported that Japan will allocate $3 billion to Ukraine at the expense of Russian assets.
