A Navy veteran said he shot the former Japanese prime minister because he was unhappy with his job.
Japanese Navy veteran Tetsuya Yamagami, who was jailed on suspicion of killing former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, said he shot Abe because he was so frustrated with the politician’s work. On Friday, July 8, the Daily Mail reports.
Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, a Navy veteran, was arrested at the scene for suspected attempted murder using an improvised firearm.
According to law enforcement officials, referred to by the publication, the man then admitted he wanted to kill Abe because he had failed him.
Witnesses said Abe was about to start his speech when Yamagami approached him from behind and fired two shots, the second of which hit the ex-premier.
Some of Abe’s security personnel grabbed Yamagami while others gave the politician chest compression before taking him to the hospital by helicopter.
