At the same time, Dmitry Peskov admitted for the first time that European troops could be deployed in Ukraine.
Russia does not need a truce in Ukraine, but peace, which will come after meeting all Moscow’s conditions. This cynical statement was made by Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on Friday, December 13.
Journalists asked him about the idea of sending a European contingent to Ukraine after the truce was decided to implement it.
“All this can be discussed during the negotiations, it should be discussed,” Peskov said and added that we should not get ahead of ourselves yet.
“We have repeatedly said that the truce itself is not what we want, we want the peace that will come after our conditions are met and after all the goals we have set are achieved,” he added.
Peskov reiterated that Russia is ready for negotiations based on the so-called “Istanbul Agreements” (an indefinite meeting between representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, which took place in March 2022, – ed..), but “the Ukrainian side excludes them.”
Earlier, the head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak said that Ukraine is not ready for negotiations with Russia. To start them, our country must be strong enough to talk to the aggressor on an equal footing.
In this regard, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that peace negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and Russia could begin this winter.
