The UK has successfully tested a laser weapon from an armored personnel carrier for the first time and successfully destroyed a drone.
The country’s Ministry of Defense reported on December 11 that, unlike conventional ammunition, laser weapons have virtually unlimited ammunition supplies, so they can be a cost-effective alternative to existing types of weapons.
The laser works by directing an intense beam of infrared light in the form of energy towards its target through advanced sensors and tracking systems that provide real-time fixation and accuracy.
Unlike conventional ammunition, laser weapons have a virtually unlimited supply of ammunition, meaning they can be a cost-effective alternative to some existing weapons, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The laser was integrated into the Wolfhound, a protected vehicle for transporting paratroopers. Soldiers of the Royal Artillery were able to track and destroy hovering targets at the Radnor training ground in central Wales.
