While one group surrounded the Syrian capital of Damascus, another announced the capture of Homs and the release of prisoners.
Rebel groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham entered the Syrian city of Homs and announced the liberation of the city. CNN reported this on Sunday evening, December 8, citing the statement of Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Abdel Ghani.
“The city of Homs has been completely liberated,” Ghani said.
Meanwhile, other rebel groups in southern Syria said they were working to encircle Damascus.
Video from Homs shows locals taking to the streets to celebrate the liberation of the city.
As you know, Homs is an important hub city, where the Russian air base is also located.
The rebels also said that as part of the operation they freed more than 3,500 prisoners from a military prison they had captured in Homs, AFP reported.
A video of the prisoners’ release also appeared on social networks.
Earlier, the media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden predicted the imminent fall of the Assad regime.
