The American contingent was supposed to deter further aggression by Russia and “calm allies.”
About 80 thousand US military personnel are deployed on the territory of European NATO member countries. If necessary, they should support US allies and deter further Russian aggression. This was stated in a letter from President Joe Biden to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the leader of the Senate on the report on the war powers.
The document states that “in support of counterterrorism efforts, the United States continues to work with partners around the world.”
“In this context, the United States has deployed forces to conduct counterterrorism operations and to advise, assist, and accompany the security forces of select foreign partners in counterterrorism operations,” the letter said.
It also said that “about 80,000 personnel of the United States Armed Forces have been deployed or deployed” to North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries in Europe.
“Including those deployed to reassure our allies and deter further Russian aggression,” the document said.
Let’s recall that in May 2022 it was reported that the United States would rotate military personnel to Europe. At the same time, the total number of American troops should remain at about 100 thousand people.
