Donald Tusk visited the section of the border with the Russian Federation, where the Eastern Shield fortifications have already been built.
The Polish authorities decided to build a fortress – eastern shield – not only on the borders of Russia and Belarus, but also on the borders of Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced this on Saturday, November 30.
Today he visited a section of the border with the Russian Federation, where fortifications have been built eastern shield.
“During a meeting with soldiers 200 meters from the border, I felt really safe,” Tusk wrote on the social network.
He noted that “with better surveillance of Poland’s border, it will be more difficult for those with bad intentions to reach it,” RMF24 reports.
“Everything we do here – and we will also do it on the border with Belarus and Ukraine – is to deter and scare a possible aggressor, so this is really an investment in the world, we will spend billions of zlotys here, but now the whole of Europe is watching this with great pleasure and will support, if necessary, these investments and our actions,” said the head of the Polish government.
Tusk also added that the Baltic countries will cooperate with Poland for the effective functioning of this infrastructure not only in the Polish sections, but also along the entire length of the border with Russia and Belarus.
Let’s remember that in early November Poland started building fortifications as part of a large-scale project eastern shield. At first they discussed the borders with Russia and Belarus.
It is planned that by 2028 Poland will build 700 km of fortifications. We are talking about detection and warning systems, forward bases, logistics hubs and counter-drone systems. The cost of the project will be 10 billion zlotys (about 2.5 billion dollars).
As you know, in 2025 Poland will allocate a record amount for defense – 186.6 billion zlotys (about $48 billion).
