The heads of government of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Sweden have announced increased aid, including support for the Ukrainian defense industry and ensuring ammunition supplies.
The leaders of the Baltic countries, Scandinavia and Poland agreed to increase aid to Ukraine, in particular, support for the defense industry and increase the supply of ammunition. This was discussed at the summit in Hapsund, Sweden, which took place on Wednesday, November 27, as confirmed by the joint statement of the participants in the event.
The summit was attended by the heads of government of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Sweden. They discussed key security issues in the face of increasing threats in the Euro-Atlantic region.
Participants in the meeting expressed the need to combine efforts to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
The heads of government of the countries unanimously declared the importance of increasing military aid to Ukraine. They emphasized that their countries are leaders in terms of military support per capita and they intend to continue this work.
In the coming months, it is planned to increase the amount of aid, in particular, support for the Ukrainian defense industry and ensuring ammunition supplies.
The leaders stressed that Ukraine’s stability and courage in the face of Russian aggression must be backed by reliable international support. There has also been a call for other countries to join these efforts.
Summit participants supported the Ukraine Victory Plan, which aims to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, as well as the full integration of Ukraine into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
The leaders of the Baltic and Scandinavian countries have identified Russia as the biggest threat to regional and global security. The joint statement emphasizes that the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation, including the illegal war against Ukraine and the use of hybrid methods, are seriously undermining peace and stability.
The participants agreed to continue working to prevent and counter Russian aggression, strengthen sanctions against Russia and those who support its aggression. In addition, they confirmed their intentions to strengthen the defense capabilities of their countries and the general security of the Euro-Atlantic region.
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, responded to this statement on Telegram. He thanked the Baltic countries, Northern Europe and Poland.
As reported, on Wednesday, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, appealed to members of the European Parliament to increase defense spending to Russian levels. EU countries collectively spend 1.9% of their GDP on defense, while Russia spends up to 9%. “Something’s wrong here,” he said.
