The Digital Press Highlight Award took place last Tuesday, the 26th, and recognized musicals in different categories; check it out!
On the night of last Tuesday, the 26th, the 2024 Digital Press Highlight Award (DID) took place at Teatro Liberdade, in São Paulo, celebrating the great highlights of musical theater in the country, according to the specialized press.
The ceremony brought together several artists from musical theater and related areas to celebrate the main musicals of the year. The night was full of musical performances and brought together several famous people, including Thiago Abravanel, Claudia Raia and Jarbas Homem de Mello, Vanessa da Matathe winner of three 2024 Latin Grammys, the singer Jota.Pê, Diego Martins and much more!
Among the competitors were some of the main musicals of the year, such as “Hairspray”, “Beetlejuice – The Musical”, “The King of Rock” and others.
The winners
In the technical categories, Renato Theobaldo won the best for the scenography of “Beetlejuice – The Musical”, already for lighting, Gabriele Souza won the award for his work in “Cabaret – Kit Kat Club”. For Visagismo, Feliciano San Romani and Luciano Paradella were the winners for “Hairspray”. For the costumes, “Hairspray” also took the spotlight to Bruno Oliveira.
Music and direction
In the musical categories, Anna Toledo was the winner for original lyrics in “Tarsila, a Brasileira” and the choreography also won “Hairspray”, with Tiago Dias. Thinking about musical direction, Thiago Gimenes secured the award for “O Rei do Rock – The Musical” and the overall direction was highlighted by Kleber Montanheiro by “Cabaret – Kit Kat Club”.
As a highlight in original dramaturgy, Beto Sargentelli He was awarded for “The King of Rock – The Musical”, even though he was competing in more categories. The big reveal (of the season) was Lindsay Paulino for “Hairspray”, winning the award of the same name. The public also played an important role in the decision, since, with more than 30 thousand popular votes overall, “Hairspray” was recognized as a Musical Highlight.
Cast highlights
As the performance highlights, several people were consecrated to the stage with much applause. Eduardo Sterblitch and Ana Luíza Ferreira won the Outstanding Actor and Actress awards for “Beetlejuice – The Musical”, while Carol Costa was recognized as Outstanding Supporting Actress and Hugo Bonemer as Outstanding Supporting Actor, for “Clara Nunes – A Tal Guerreira” and “Querido Evan Hansen”, respectively.
The award for Outstanding Cast went to “Dear Evan Hansen”. The most anticipated awards of the night were Foreign and Brazilian Musical Outstanding and for the first category, “Beetlejuice – The Musical” won, while “Clara Nunes – A Tal Guerreira” took the national title.
