Seoul saw the highest amount of snow in November since records began in 1907.
South Korea’s capital, Seoul, and surrounding regions experienced the heaviest November snowfall in 117 years on Wednesday, November 27, Yonhap reported.
It was noted that as of 15:00 local time, 18 centimeters of snow had fallen in Seoul, which is a record amount of snow in November since records began in 1907, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported.
The previous record of 12.4 centimeters of snow was recorded on November 28, 1972, the KMA added.
Incheon also saw record snowfall for November, with 14.8 centimeters of snow falling as of 3 pm local time on Wednesday. At the same time, 21 centimeters of snow fell in the city of Suwon, which was the highest amount of rain recorded in November.
The snowfall caused damage, car accidents and power outages.
As of 6 pm local time, 150 flights were canceled at airports across the country due to the snowfall, including 71 flights at Incheon International Airport. Also across South Korea, 89 passenger ferries on 70 routes stopped operating and access to 7 national parks was limited.
