The Portuguese Navy says a spy ship from Russia has passed its coast.
An increase in the movement of Russian ships is observed in Portuguese waters. In particular, a spy ship recently passed the coast. Euactive reported it.
“In our waters there is a transit of ships from the Russian Federation, an increasingly intensive transit from north to south and from south to north,” said the Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Navy, Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo.
In a very short time, three warships – two frigates and a corvette – passed through Portuguese waters, as well as two refueling vessels, three research vessels and “a spy ship that normally engages in electronic espionage.”
Gouveia e Melo said the navy is closely monitoring the flow of these Russian ships.
Portugal plans to “monitor them, control them, keep them under the pressure of its constant presence.”
Let’s remember that last year a Russian submarine and tug were discovered near Spanish territorial waters. Spanish ships accompanied them until they left the area of the Balearic Islands.
