The ranking of the weakest passwords in 2024 based on data from 44 countries, including Ukraine, was published by experts from security companies NordPass and NordStellar.
This is reported on the NordPass website.
In the process of preparing it, they analyzed a 2.5 TB database obtained from various publicly available sources, including the dark web. This data included:
- passwords stolen by malware;
- data origins.
This is the sixth time such a rating has been published. And in five out of six ratings, the most common password was 123,456. Only once was the password “Password” moved from the first line.
This time, in their study, experts compared personal passwords and corporate passwords.
In most cases, data leaks occurred along with email addresses, which allowed us to distinguish between corporate and personal credentials based on the domain name, experts say.
It is noted that in this issue “life and work intersect.”
If you look at the top 10 most common personal passwords and compare them to the list of corporate passwords, you will notice that they are almost identical. This suggests that people tend to rely on the same weak passwords in both their personal and work lives, experts say.
The ranking of the ten most common passwords in the world in 2024 looks like this:
