Democrats say the possible ties between Russia and Musk raise “serious questions about his trustworthiness.”
In the United States, Democratic senators Gene Shaheen, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, and the head of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Jack Reed, called on the Pentagon to investigate businessman Elon Musk’s ties to Russia. Reuters reported this on Friday, November 15, citing the text of the senators’ letter.
In particular, Democrats have called for an investigation into possible phone conversations Musk is alleged to have had with officials in Russia, including the head of the Kremlin.
“Elon Musk, a senior government official with access to classified information, may have maintained ties to an enemy of the United States despite his control of billions of dollars in Pentagon and intelligence contracts,” said of senators in a statement.
The letter was sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Pentagon Inspector General Robert Storch. The authors believe that the businessman’s contacts with the Russian government could influence contracts with the US government concluded by Musk’s company SpaceX.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal published an article claiming that Vladimir Putin and Elon Musk are in constant contact. The Kremlin denied this.
Billionaire Elon Musk’s near-constant presence at US President-elect Donald Trump’s Florida residence in the week following Election Day is starting to irritate Republican insiders.
American billionaire and businessman Elon Musk met with Iranian Ambassador to the UN Amir Saida Iravani. The parties discussed reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
