If Ukraine gives up fighting the enemy, Europe will face a greater threat on its eastern border.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is suggesting that his country could deploy troops to Ukraine if the United States cuts military aid to Kyiv. The politician said this on Tuesday, November 12, in an interview with the GB News channel.
Johnson noted that the defeat of Ukraine would open the way for Russia to invade other European states, particularly the Baltic countries and Georgia.
“If Ukraine falls, we will face a major threat on our borders and across the European continent where the democracies border Russia,” Johnson said.
He cited the long-term financial benefits of supporting Ukraine, saying that withdrawing aid would result in greater costs for the UK in the future.
“This is a really good investment of public money. If we don’t help now, we’re going to have to spend more later to protect our own borders,” Johnson explained.
The former prime minister noted that if Ukraine is defeated, Great Britain will be forced to engage in direct military confrontation with the Russian Federation to protect its allies.
“We may have to send British troops to defend Ukraine,” Johnson warned.
Speaking about newly elected US President Donald Trump’s position on Ukraine, Johnson noted that there are conflicting sentiments within the Republican Party. He criticized some Republicans for being too sympathetic to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. At the same time, Johnson recalled that the Republican authorized the supply of the Javelin anti-tank missile system to Kyiv, which played an important role in strengthening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Without this support, the battle for Kyiv could have ended in a different way,” he said.
Let’s remember that the other day Rutte emphasized that NATO members must do more to change the course of the war in Ukraine.
