It is important for the European Union to immediately build good relations with the new US presidential administration, believes the President of the European Commission.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke with US President-elect Donald Trump. Among other things, the politicians discussed Ukraine. He announced this on Friday, November 8, at an informal summit of the European Union in Budapest.
“I had the opportunity yesterday to congratulate Donald Trump by phone, among other things, the topic of Ukraine, energy and security issues together the topics,” said von der Leyen.
He also noted that Russia poses a danger not only to Europe, but to the whole world.
“Russia is not only an authoritarian country that threatens democracy. It is increasingly allied with countries like Iran and North Korea, which, together with China, are fueling this war. I think this is an argument that needs “Let’s be clear about our American friends. We’ve seen Russia use technology from China and Iran on the battlefield,” von der Leyen said.
Ursula von der Leyen added that Ukraine will receive a loan from the G7, which will provide the country with important financial support until 2026. She noted that each of the G7 partners is making their fair contribution to $50 billion this loan, which Ukraine will also receive.
Let’s remember that during the election campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to quickly end the war in Ukraine.
After becoming US President, Trump has said that he is not ruling out the possibility of continuing talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
