The former head of the board of an oil refining company, during his tenure, supplied petroleum products to controlled companies. However, no payment was made.
The national police announced the exposure of a criminal group that embezzled almost six billion hryvnias from one of the largest oil refining companies in Ukraine. Among those involved in the corruption scheme were former high-ranking officials, as well as six people whose affiliated companies were registered. The police press service reported this on Thursday, November 7.
Law enforcement officials do not disclose the name of the company, however, according to RBC-Ukraine, we are talking about Ukrtatneft.
According to the investigation, the 56-year-old former chairman of the board of an oil refining company organized the conclusion of contracts with controlled enterprises for the supply of petroleum products in the amount from 1 million to 1 billion Hryvnia, for which no payment was made. At the same time, it was noted that all agreements whose value exceeds 10 million hryvnias can be concluded exclusively with the consent of the company’s board, and not the manager. In the absence of such permission, the oil refining company supplied the customer with fuel worth almost 1 billion Hryvnia.
Without paying for the products, the subordinate enterprise sold the products through a network of controlled gas stations in several regions of Ukraine.
It was noted that from 2017 to 2022, participants in the scheme acquired a burning oil refinery worth more than 5.8 billion hryvnias.
The police conducted 58 searches at the residences of the defendants, as well as at the offices of controlled companies in seven regions. As a result of the activities, documentation, computer equipment and “draft” records were confiscated.
The defendants were charged with misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or its possession by abusing official position on a particularly large scale. They face up to 12 years in prison.
