“Shaheds” with thermobaric charges began to fly over Ukraine more often

The Russian Federation began to actively use drones of the Shahed-136 type with a thermobaric warhead for attacks on Ukraine, which significantly increases the threat when attacking an area. This was reported by Defense Express.

We are talking about the TV BC-50, which was first identified in April 2024. However, the enemy began to use the modification more widely.

It was noted that the details about the TV BC-50 warhead became known thanks to the hacking of the servers of a Russian company. Alabuga in Tatarstan, where the production and modernization of these drones is carried out.

The thermobaric warhead of the TV BC-50 weighs 52.4 kg and has a double effect: thermobaric and fragmentation. In addition to a powerful explosion that creates a high-temperature wave, it contains 2306 destructive elements in the form of balls with a diameter of 9 mm, which enhances its destructive power.

In modern single-stroke ammunition, after the activation of the initiator, the shock wave causes the movement of a thermobaric mixture, which reacts with the surrounding air and with itself. This leads to the formation of a so-called “fire cloud” with a temperature of 2400 to 2600 degrees, which spreads throughout the area. The shock wave, in turn, can cause serious damage to organs such as lungs, hearing organs and other tissues.

In the event of an explosion of a thermobaric warhead in a residential area, it is more difficult to protect against its effects. The cloud of fire formed after the explosion will fill the entire area of ​​the apartment, covering all the rooms, and its high temperature and shock wave can cause fatal injuries.

When using high-explosive fragmentation ammunition, there is a chance to avoid serious damage if you follow the “two walls” rule.

As the publication writes, to the well-known rule that if it is not possible to enter a shelter, you need to stay in a room separated from the street by at least two walls, you can add another important rule – close. the inner doors. This will help reduce the spread of the thermobaric mixture in the room.

We remind you that on the night of November 7, Russian aggressors attacked Ukraine with 106 Shahed-type attack UAVs and unknown drones. Most of them were destroyed by air defense.

As reported, in Kyiv, as a result of a massive Russian morning air attack, two downed and unexploded drones were discovered. Law enforcement officials released the UAV’s warheads.
