The EU has demanded that Ukraine set drinking water standards. But if you do this, it turns out that all the water in the taps is technical. Accordingly, tariffs have to be reduced, and the government is not ready for a reduction in budget revenues.
The European Union requires Ukraine to prescribe drinking water standards, but if the government does so, it will appear that the state only has industrial water. Deputy Minister of Health Marina Slobodnichenko spoke about this in an interview with Ukrainian News.
He noted that the water process is cheaper, so the state has to reduce tariffs, and there are difficulties here.
“One of the difficult ones is the issue of drinking water. That is, what is the quality of drinking water in Ukraine, the EU asks us to spell it out at the legislative level to control compliance with certain drinking water standards,” noted . the Ministry of Health official.
According to him, if Ukraine now writes these standards, as the European Union wants, then according to the relevant standards, water throughout the country will be considered not drinking, but technical.
If the consumer uses processed water, he must pay a lower price for it. Water tariffs will decrease and there will be no revenue in the budget, the deputy minister added.
“To bring these standards in line with European standards, you have to not only write them on paper, but implement them in the country And this is a big question,” the official noted, adding that it is not a year.
We remind you that the European Commission recognized that “Ukraine has completed all the steps” specified in the conclusion of the European Commission in 2022 on granting candidate status.
