Antonio Guterres did not forget to remind Vladimir Putin of the need to adhere to the UN Charter, the organization assured.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres celebrated UN Day in Kazan with Vladimir Putin, as the BRICS summit is scheduled for October 24. Deputy UN Secretary General Farhan Gak said this, he reported Ukrinform on Friday, October 25th.
“Here, of course, let the BRICS summit be held as they are… And he (Guterres – ed.), as usual, decided to attend the BRICS summit,” he said, trying to explain what exactly did Guterres to celebrate the UN Day in the society of the Russian dictator.
When asked if the Secretary General intends to call Putin to stop the military aggression against Ukraine, Gak replied: “Maybe you saw what he said at the BRICS summit, especially about Ukraine for a long time – or the need to comply with the UN Charter, international humanitarian law and UN resolutions.
Guterres reportedly spoke at the BRICS summit on Thursday and later met with Putin. Speaking at the summit in Kazan, he really said the need to achieve peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry critically assessed Guterres’ trip to the BRICS summit in Russia. They believe that the Secretary General is damaging the reputation of the UN. Earlier, Antonio Guterres missed the international peace summit, which Ukraine held in Switzerland in June.
And Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said the other day that “today is UN Day all over the world, and not somewhere in Kazan.”
