Tashkent does not plan to join the Eurasian Economic Union. The Committee of the Parliament of Uzbekistan does not see any benefit for the country here.
Uzbekistan refused to enter into an economic union with Russia. This was reported by the Moscow Times.
According to the first deputy speaker of the legislative chamber of the republic’s parliament, Akmal Saidov, Tashkent does not plan to join the Eurasian Economic Union.
It noted that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin went to Tashkent in August to persuade Uzbek officials to join the EAEU, which Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has called the new “center of the multipolar world.” Following a meeting with the head of Uzbekistan’s government, Abdulla Aripov, he promised the republic “preferences for business,” “new markets” and “fair competition.”
However, a parliamentary commission that studied almost a thousand main documents of the EAEU did not find any benefit for Uzbekistan in them.
As Saidov said, Kazakhstan did not receive any specific benefits from participating in the EAEU, so it would be “most desirable” for Uzbekistan to remain in observer status and maintain its independence and sovereignty.
We remind you that Kazakhstan is not planning to join BRICS, despite the fact that the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received such proposals.
