The Kremlin leader met with the Chinese leader in Kazan, where they discussed Ukraine and relations with the West.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit on Tuesday, October 22 in Kazan. The negotiations lasted about an hour with the participation of delegations from both countries, the Russian service of Radio Liberty reported.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the main topic of discussion was the situation in Ukraine, as well as relations with Western countries.
Peskov noted that the leaders of Russia and China spoke about relations with the West collectively, emphasizing that “our interests are violated, as well as China’s interests.”
It is emphasized that relations between Moscow and Beijing have become increasingly close since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. This is causing concern in the West as both countries seek to increase their global influence.
Xi Jinping mentioned at the meeting the “deep friendship” between the two countries and said that the relationship between China and Russia has made a great contribution to maintaining international equality and justice.
Putin said in negotiations with Xi that Moscow intends to further increase coordination with Beijing on all international platforms. He stressed that Russian-Chinese relations are “not opportunistic.”
Let’s remember that Putin recently said that Russia is ready to end the war against Ukraine, but “only on the basis of the agreements in Istanbul.”
