Hashem Safiddin was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on October 4, but Israel only now said it could confirm his death.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Tuesday, October 22, the killing of Hezbollah spokesman Hashem Safiddin. This happened during an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on October 4, reports The Times of Israel.
It was noted that the head of Hezbollah’s executive council, Safiddin, was considered Hassan Nasrallah’s successor after his assassination.
The IDF said Safiddin was killed along with the head of the terror group’s intelligence department, Hussein Ali Hazima.
The strike targeted Hezbollah’s clandestine intelligence headquarters in Beirut, which the military said was “in the heart of the civilian population” in the southern suburb of the Lebanese capital known as Dahiya.
More than 25 members of Hezbollah’s intelligence unit, including other senior commanders, were at the headquarters at the time of the strike, according to the IDF.
Safideen has been out of touch since the strike, but today the IDF said it could confirm his death. Hezbollah has not yet announced his death.
Safiddin, who was designated a terrorist by the US State Department in 2017, is Nasrallah’s cousin and, like him, is a cleric who wears a black turban that alludes to the alleged origins of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
Let’s remember that on the night of October 4, Israel launched eleven strikes on the southern point of the Hezbollah group in Beirut, whose target was the chairman of the group’s executive council, Hashem Safiddin.
And on October 10, the Israeli military announced that they had removed another member of the Hezbollah group, Adham Jahout, who was responsible for intelligence.
