Zelensky called for a step towards de-escalation

A mutual cessation of attacks on energy facilities could pave the way for negotiations to end the hot phase of the war.

President Vladimir Zelensky said that a mutual cessation of attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and the Russian Federation could be a step towards ending the hot phase of the war. He said this at a meeting with journalists in Kyiv, the Financial Times reports.

According to him, any negotiations do not exclude defensive and offensive actions, but the adoption of political decisions leads to the end of the hot phase.

“Here is a living example. We decided at the first Summit that the hot phase could have a solution to energy security? I think so,” said Zelensky.

He added that stopping strikes in the energy sector would lead to a “decreasing level,” as would stopping Russian strikes on Ukraine’s grain corridor, ports and ships.

Let’s remember that in August the media wrote that Ukraine and Russia planned to conduct indirect negotiations through the mediation of Qatar on an agreement to stop mutual attacks on energy facilities. However, this was stopped by the offensive in the Kursk region.
