The EU is now awaiting the final announcement of the official results of both the votes and statements from the observation missions.
The European Union has not yet officially commented on the results of the referendum and the first round of elections in Moldova, but takes into account the conditions in which the election campaign took place. This is what EU Foreign Policy Speaker Peter Stano said in a briefing in Brussels on Monday, October 21.
According to him, the EU is closely monitoring two votes: the referendum and the presidential elections in Moldova.
“The vote took place under conditions of unprecedented interference and intimidation by Russia and its proxies, which tried to destabilize the democratic process in Moldova,” said Stano, recalling attempts to buy votes and “big propaganda” by Russia and its proxies.
He added that the EU is waiting for the final announcement of the official results of both the votes and statements from the observation missions.
“After this we will issue our official reaction,” the spokesperson said.
European Commission Speaker Eric Mamer added that the EU continues to fully support Moldova’s aspirations to join the European Union.
Let’s recall that the presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU were held in Moldova.
