The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will limit the use of the popular Internet messenger Telegram.
The chairman of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech, People’s Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, announced this today, October 7, on his Facebook page.
“I received an order from the Verkhovna Rada with new regulations on the work of Telegram on the Council’s local network,” he said.
According to Yurchyshyn, the Council apparatus, on the recommendation of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Center, is introducing the following security measures:
Two-factor authentication and cancellation of contact synchronization are required. It is also necessary to block access to the computer if it is left unattended so that unauthorized persons cannot gain access to the account;
- prohibition of the transfer of data used in work and official communication in Telegram;
- prohibition from installing and using the Telegram client on business computers or personal computers used in official activities;
- blocking the operation of the messenger is carried out using technical and software means, requests for unauthorized attempts to connect to the service are recorded.
I think that such security measures are quite logical. Unfortunately, there have already been examples when outsiders received data from government employees through Telegram, which they used on work devices,” noted Yurchyshyn. — Did they create fakes, as in the case of the alleged channel of speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk? With this instruction we minimize risks.
I would like to emphasize that this applies specifically to employees of the Council apparatus and does not limit the use of the messenger for personal purposes, he added.
