China carried out a hacker attack on judicial wiretapping systems in the United States.
Beijing-controlled hackers have infiltrated American ISP networks, likely gaining access to information from systems the federal government uses for court-authorized wiretapping. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
It is noted that the Salt Typhoon group was involved in the cyber attacks. The attackers could attack the American system for more than a month. The United States sees this as a threat to national security, because in this way the PRC wanted to obtain intelligence data.
The hackers also had access to other tranches of more general Internet traffic. They were able to break the networks of telecommunications companies Verizon Communications, AT&T and Lumen Technologies.
The American government is already investigating the attack and the extent of its consequences. Washington considers this a “historically significant” intervention that is causing concern.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengu, said that the PRC resolutely opposes and combats cyber attacks and cyber thefts in all forms.
Let us recall that in August the Google search engine reported an Iranian phishing attack against American politicians and officials. Then about 10 people associated with current US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were under attack, including in the government and headquarters.
