The department announced the positive results of the campaign in Russia and its expansion to several other authoritarian countries.
The US Central Intelligence Agency says it has achieved positive results in recruiting informants in Russia. The agency is now expanding its recruitment campaign to China, Iran and North Korea. Reuters reported this on Wednesday, October 2.
On Wednesday, the CIA posted instructions in Chinese, Farsi and Korean on its social media accounts on how to safely contact the agency.
“Our efforts in this area have been successful in Russia, and we want to make sure that people in other authoritarian regimes know that we are open for business,” said a US intelligence agency official.
Specifically, in a video posted on YouTube in Chinese, the CIA recommends communicating through the official website, using a reliable encrypted virtual private network (VPN) or the TOR network.
The CIA’s desire for more intelligence is growing as China expands cooperation with Russia and Iran and becomes more active militarily in its region.
Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are known in the US intelligence community as “hard targets”—countries where power has a hard time finding informants.
Let’s remember that in 2022 the CIA announced that they were ready to recruit Russians who were dissatisfied with the war. They noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine created a historic opportunity for “the Russians to come to us and pass on the information that the United States needs.”
And the following year, the CIA made a new video to recruit Russians. First of all, the American intelligence service is looking for Russian military officers, intelligence officers, diplomats and scientists.
