Israel could launch a ground operation in Lebanon as early as this week.
IDF commandos carry out small, targeted raids into southern Lebanon to gather intelligence and conduct reconnaissance ahead of a possible invasion. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.
It is noted that such raids over the past few months have included infiltration of Hezbollah tunnels located along the border. These special operations are part of Israel’s efforts to weaken the group’s capabilities along the border.
However, sources told reporters that the timing of the ground invasion could change because the United States is pressing Israel hard to abandon the ground operation.
Former IDF deputy commander in Gaza Amir Aviv believes that an Israeli ground invasion is inevitable and that the raids are part of preparations for it.
Let us recall that on the morning of September 30, an Israeli drone attacked an apartment in the central district of Beirut, which belonged to members of the Lebanese Islamic Group, allies of Hezbollah. Three top fighters died.
