The one-on-one negotiations between Sibiga and Szijjarto lasted almost an hour – twice as long as planned.
Hungary supports an immediate end to the war in Ukraine. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó wrote this on Facebook on Monday, September 30.
“Hungary is part of the international majority when calling for immediate peace in Ukraine. We were able to confirm this repeatedly during the UN General Assembly last week,” he wrote.
Szijjártó assured that Hungary is striving for “good neighborly relations” with Ukraine, but at the same time quoted the Hungarian saying that “in justice there are two sides.”
He noted that the visit of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga to Budapest was the first for an official of this rank in four and a half years.
“Let’s see how far we are now,” added the Hungarian minister.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that the one-on-one negotiations between Sibiga and Szijjarto lasted almost an hour – twice the length of the plan. After their completion, negotiations began in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.
Earlier on Monday it was learned that Andrei Sibiga was visiting Hungary on a working visit to participate in bilateral negotiations with Peter Szijjártó. Their main topics are the development of good neighborly relations and the implementation of joint projects in different areas. The ministers will also discuss the protection of the rights of national minorities, Ukraine’s progress towards joining the EU and NATO and the Peace Formula.
