The head of the government said that his political force saved Georgia from the invasion of Russian troops, and the banners should remind Georgians of this.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze does not want to abandon the theme of the war in Ukraine in advertising for the Georgian Dream party. He said that he considers it important to compare the war in Ukraine and peace in Georgia. Echo of the Caucasus reported this on Friday, September 27.
As part of the election campaign, the ruling Georgian Dream party displayed a series of street banners and a video in which Ukrainian cities turned into ruins are depicted next to peaceful Georgian cities.
Journalists asked Kobakhidze if it would be a friendly gesture for him if Ukraine used the Sukhumi footage for election purposes.
“I remember that Ukrainians actively used these images for various purposes, including funny ones, but that’s a different question now we’re talking about the consequences of the war in general and what we avoid for our country in 2022,” – answered the leader. of the Georgian government.
At the same time, he emphasized that the August 2008 war “was started by the Saakashvili regime.”
“If the collective National Movement comes to power, it will open a second front in Georgia within a week. Why didn’t Russia enter Georgia in 2022? Do you have an explanation? We saved, yes! We saved Georgia, and if we comply with the demands presented by the highest official of the Ukrainian leadership, Russian troops will enter Georgia in 2022,” said Kobakhidze.
We remind you that the Georgian Dream party, as part of the election campaign, made banners with images of the destruction caused by Russia in Ukraine and, on the other hand, peaceful life in Georgia. Signatures on the banners call on voters to “choose peace” and “say no to war.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned and called unacceptable the use of images of the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine in political advertising. The Foreign Ministry said that “the Georgian people should not fear a new war as long as Ukraine resists Russian aggression.”
