In Germany, an exception was made for Ukrainian refugees – for the first year they did not have to register their cars, then this decision was extended twice. However, this window is about to end.

In Germany, the grace period for registering cars for Ukrainian refugees is ending. From October 1, 2024, they will be required to re-register their vehicles with German number plates. Radio Liberty wrote this on Thursday, September 26.

It is indicated that the change applies to Ukrainians whose vehicles have been in Germany for more than 12 months.

The cost of car re-registration depends on its technical characteristics – engine size, year of manufacture, mileage and condition of the car. As the owners of cars with Ukrainian license plates pointed out to journalists, such a procedure costs from one thousand to five thousand euros.

According to the German Ministry of Transport, driving a car without German registration is an administrative offense punishable by a fine of 70 euros.

It was previously reported that in Sweden migrants will be paid $34,000 to leave the country.

Almost a quarter of a million Ukrainians were denied temporary protection in Germany
