The world’s first vertical farm for industrial strawberry cultivation has opened in Virginia, significantly reducing water and land consumption.
The world’s first vertical strawberry farm opens in Richmond, Virginia. This was reported in the journal Frontiers in Science.
In an area of only 0.4 hectares, the farm uses a 30-meter tower to achieve an annual production of more than 1.8 million kilograms of berries.
Plenty farm ensures consistent yields regardless of weather and weather conditions by controlling light, temperature and humidity in 12 dedicated rooms. Particular attention is paid to the pollination process, which increases production efficiency and reduces waste.
The farm’s products, made in partnership with renowned manufacturer Driscoll’s, will be available in stores in early 2025. This innovative growing method uses 97% less land and 90% less water than traditional farming.
It was previously reported that the mushroom and compost production of the Veres company in Kanev, Cherkasy region, ceased production in July 2023.
